SCHOOL PROGRAMS

One of my most favorite things to do is to bring my collection of string instruments to the young people

to hear and see, to explain, and to answer

??????????????????????????????????????

IT’S LOADS OF FUN FOR THEM AND ME!

The instruments I bring to share are:

The Violin, Viola, and Cello,

A Chin Cello, a 5-String Violin,

A Fiddle with 3 Rattlesnake Tails Inside,

A Fiddle Made Out of a Cigar Box,

A Fiddle Made Out of a Bottle,

A 1/16 Size Violin,

And a Phono Fiddle…

Complete with a Horn Attached!

YOU CAN SEE THERE’S SOME

Sharing music, string instruments,
Different and unusual string instruments,
Answering questions, and having fun!

FROM THE TEACHERS:

“My students were fascinated by Ms. Tomlin’s cigar box and beer bottle violins,
but were even more impressed with her fiddling!  She was a real musical treat.”

Bonnie Floyd, Middle School Strings Teacher,
Howard Middle School, Macon,Georgia

“Thank you ever so much for visiting our classes at
St. Andrews Montessori Preschool.
You were wonderful, and the children learned so much from you.
We would really love to have you come back again anytime.

Karen Maugham and Children, Macon, Georgia

AND FROM THE STUDENTS:

“Thank you for playing that concert.
I liked it when you showed us those freaky instruments.
I never knew they had instruments like that.
I hope you come back.”  Seth

“I really enjoyed your performance!
It was really neat how you played that cigar box fiddle and that tiny violin.
I play the saxophone and I would like to try and play a string instrument in middle school.
And again, great performance!”      Lee Purvis

“Thank you so much for playing the viola for us.
Also, thank you for showing me those other violins that other people made
and that violin with a brass instrument.  You play awesome.
I’d like you to come back to Porter Elementary School sometime.
Keep up the good work!” Alexandra Kirshbaum

“Thank you for coming to our class.  It was very interesting.
It was also a lot of fun to learn the parts of the violin and play it.
Before now I didn’t really like classical violin or classical music.
It was really great.” Jeremy P.

“We thank you for coming to our school and playing for us.
I liked the whole thing. I hope you will come back again.” Shawn Cornelus

AND A LETTER OF QUESTIONS FROM A STUDENT:

???????????????????????????????????????????????

(After seeing and hearing a school program with the “Vivace String Trio.”)

Dear Miss Tomlin,

Miss Tomlin, do you like to play the viola?
Was it hard when you started to play the viola?
How many hours do you play your viola?
Do you play anymore instruments?
Do you like to perform in front of people?
Where have you performed at?
Have you performed at the mall?
Have you made a CD?
Is it fun to perform with your group? I think that you were good today.
Have you performed at other schools?
What songs do you play?
Where can you get a violin and a viola and a string bass?
Have you ever gotten one for your birthday?

Sincerely,

Mirande Holcomb
