    After 10 long years of waiting, Sue Tomlin on violin, Nancy Sasser on bass, and Chris Crider on guitar are back singing and entertaining with their favorite hits of the 1800’s and 1900’s. Voted “Best of the Bands” in the oldies category in a “Macon Telegraph” readers’ poll, this versatile trio will win you over with some of their favorites including “Bill Bailey”, “Home Grown Tomatoes,” “All of Me”, “The Can-Can” by Offenbach, “Rhondo Ala Turk” by Mozart, “Limehouse Blues” and “The 12th Street Rag” as well as the “The Orange Blossom Special.” Also, The Back Porch Symphony’s original “hit” by Nancy, “Road Possum,” will delight once again. You’ll be singing along by the end of the song!

    Back Porch SymphonySUE TOMLIN (Violin, Fiddle, & Vocals) earned her B.A, in Music from the University of Alabama, and performs on the viola with The Macon Symphony Orchestra and The Vivace String Trio. As winner of numerous talent and fiddle contests, she founded The Northeast Minnesota Fiddlers’ Club in Duluth, Minnesota and has written 2 books with one on fiddling and the other on the art of serenading. The Macon Junior Symphony was under her direction for 6 seasons. Sue taught strings in the public schools for 7 years in Asheville, North Carolina, taught at “The Swannanoa Gathering” there, and presently is on the faculty of Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. Sue lives in Macon and was married to the late Charles Sims, a big band trumpet player and felony probation officer, and has 1 daughter, Karen, majoring in music in Minnesota.

    NANCY SASSER (Bass/Vocals/Twin Fiddling) sings with enthusiasm and animation with her deep commanding voice. She offers a lifetime love of music beginning with her violin studies in Macon with Alice Kirkpatrick and Henri Schwartzenberger. Nancy received her Suzuki violin training at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, and inspires her violin students with innovative teaching ideas using her original teaching songs that are both clever and creative. Nancy holds an auctioneer license as well as a real estate license in Georgia. She is married, is the mother of 3, and resides in her hometown of Macon.

    CHRIS CRIDER (Guitar & Vocals) is our newest member taking on the duties of Ed Morgan, now retired from the trio. Chris was born in Virginia and got his first guitar from Western Auto on his 11th birthday. At age 25 he began practicing long days, and he has the hot licks to prove it! As an accomplished guitarist, Chris is in demand both as a performer and as a teacher. He has traveled over the country playing music being quite versatile in many styles of music. He also plays with the Macon bands, “Big Mike and the Booty Papas” and “Bob Cummings and Reflections.” He has resided in Georgia for 20 years and presently lives in Dry Branch with his wife, Denise, and their young son, Calab.
